Country Approach
Body Text

The USAID Global Health Supply Chain Program-Procurement and Supply Management (GHSC-PSM) project is supporting USAID in Zambia to improve availability and access to lifesaving health commodities through procurement, distribution, and supply chain technical assistance. Building on achievements of the predecessor projects, we are addressing remaining gaps in capacity for supply chain management. We will work with key local partners to strategically review supply chain operations and refine approaches for improved performance and increased efficiency. Through this work, GHSC-PSM aims to increase country ownership to transition supply chain responsibilities to the government in a responsible way.

GHSC-PSM seeks to strengthen the capacity of the Zambian government to develop sustainable systems for ensured availability and security of vital health commodities by achieving the following five objectives:

  • Strengthen logistics information systems to provide critical data for informed supply chain decision-making
  • Increase Zambian government ownership to lead quantification and procurement planning processes
  • Provide cost-effective, reliable procurement services and technical assistance to the Zambian government
  • Improve effectiveness and efficiency in warehousing and distribution
  • Increase innovation for strategic management and planning for improved commodity security
